Plain Sailing for Open Day

Category: News

May 09, 2016

After months of meticulous planning and hard work the WMH open day finally dawned on a cool but sunny Thursday at the end of April. With 40-years of history behind it WMH was looking very much to the future by opening up the factory doors and welcoming a range of existing and new customers, suppliers and business partners to the informal event in Callington.

On display were two of WMH’s latest robotic demonstration units alongside a small inline grill, peristaltic depositor, a cheese block turn unit and several conveyors. Complimenting this line-up was Eden Weigh who brought along their new check-weigh unit and volumetric depositors and Mitsubishi Electric Automation were on hand to offer their knowledge and expertise of the latest drive and automation control products.

During the afternoon of the Thursday activity moved three miles down the road to St Mellion International resort where following a buffet lunch five teams of golfers took to the greens of the Kernow course for 18 holes of golf. The sunshine was punctuated only once by a short sharp Cornish storm which saw everyone taking shelter under their umbrellas and under nearby trees before proceeding.

“The golf was great fun and I enjoyed the course, company and hospitality and more importantly, the open day gave me a good insight into WMH, your capabilities and plans for the future”
John Anderson, Ministry of Cake

Whilst the landlubbers enjoyed the rolling landscape of St Mellion, twelve intrepid seafarers took to the seas on the Tectona, an historic, 80 foot ketch operated by the Island Trust. Setting sail from Plymouth the crew set a course for the Eddystone lighthouse before tacking back towards Cawsand Bay en-route back to Plymouth.

“The sailing was fantastic, the evening meal good company and the open day very enlightening”
Byron Davis, BFS Europe Ltd

The day was concluded by an informal three-course dinner, for golfers, sailors and staff, and prize-giving back in the comfort of St Mellion.

WMH would like to thank everyone who attended the events and helped make the days such a great success. “To hear such positive feedback for the event has made all the hard work over the past couple of months truly worthwhile” Helen Northcott, WMH.

Thanks must go to Julie Grey and her team at St Mellion for all their support in the run up to and on the day and to Ben and Heather of the Island Trust for their hospitality on the Tectona. Final thanks must go to everyone at WMH who helped to prepare the factory for visitors at the same time as completing several key projects.
